Italian artist in Budapest

 “I don’t know why I am here,” answers the Italian artist-composer, Raffaele Gargiuolo, when I badger him with the question about why he lives in Budapest for several years.
He says he loved the Danube, the city and the Hungarian people. He is happy here. He has got all that he desired: peace, harmony, inspiration, art, and music. He lives in an untainted and innocent world created by him, and it won’t change around him.
Silvano Cucumazzo artist, art critic and poet write about him in the Italian magazine, Artists of the 20th Century:
“It is not possible to understand Gargiuolo Master’s art if we don’t know the Artist himself; because he is an art himself before he would be an artist: unrepeatable apparition of his own personality. Mysterious light of his virgin landscapes comes from that subconscious need to create the first dawn of a world that waits for him: the Creator and the Creation.”
On his pictures we can see eagles what fly far away, disappearing in the horizon. “They express my undying desire on freedom” says Gargiuolo Master. Really, as we see the pictures of the artist, who creates and hold on the styles of naturalism, impressionism, realism and romantic, we can forget the weekdays by seeing these wonderful, untouched landscapes, the pure-glanced, untainted people, which are out of reach for the townsmen.
The artist was born and grew up in the South-Italian Trani, then lived in Florence for a long time where he had known many significant artists of the present whom he learned the method of making compositions.
He introduced his paintings on large-scale exhibitions in Bari, Cremona, Venice, Manciano, Padova, Pescara, Colleferro, Barletta, Rimini, Trani, Rome, Halstahammar (Schwitzerland), Rio de Janeiro and London.
He participated on the First Roman Biennale and the Salon of Nations event in Paris. Moreover, he introduced himself in common international exhibitions in Nizza, Madrid and New York, together with as legendary names as Dalí, Miro, Chagall, Picasso, De Chirico and Morandi. In Budapest he had bigger exhibitions in Hotel Béke, Suzuki Gallery and the Westend City Center. His paintings are regularly inspectable and purchasable in the DunaPart Gallery (www.galeriainfo.hu) and in the Szalóky Anna Gallery (in Bank Center). Many catalogues mention his great workmanship: Art Manciano 1983, Italian Moments and Presences 1984, Masters of the 20th Century 1985, Interart 1985, International Catalogue of Contemporary Art 1985.
He reached and reaches considerable results by his paintings every time, everywhere. He won many prizes and other acknowledgements all around the world. He is lecturer, permanent consultant of the European University and workmate of many academies.
His musical workmanship is very significant also. The many romantic, desirous, sometimes passionate and sad, sometimes cheerful and dreaming music, composed and published by him, give the same to who listens to like his paintings to who look at them: the magic, the hope for existing a better world.
When I compare him to his compatriot, Leonardo da Vinci, who also created monumental and unforgettable in many art classes, he shakes his head and says: “I am not like him; Leonardo was unique in the history.”
Well, Raffaele is unique too…
